Benjamin got his hair cut this week. This usually involves big tears, so to prepare him on the way there I kept telling him that he is "a big boy," "big boys don't need to cry when they get their hair cut," "it won't hurt,""you are so brave," "you'll be so handsome," etc. He was very serious and stoic as the haircut started, but he slowly lowered his face into his hands. When he looked up his eyes were puddled and his chin was trembling. The hair stylist said, "Oh my gosh! He's bleeding!" She had knicked his ear and cut him. Benjamin looked at me and said, "I'm a big boy. I don't cry." Then the tears came. Way to go Mom, way to teach your son it's not okay to express emotions...sigh.
On the drive to Hood River this week to visit his new cousin Mylee, Benjamin informed me that he was going to sing, "Baa Baa Black Sheep to Mylee, cause she's gonna like that." He also wanted to teach her the ABC's and play dump trucks with her. Unfortunately once we got there he didn't react to his new cousin quite as I had hoped. He didn't want to hold her and was eager for me to put her down and focus back on him. When we left he said, "Bye bye Mylee. Go back in Nay Nay's tummy now."
